24%
Only about 1 in 4 children ages 6–17 get 60 minutes of physical activity per day.
Discover the sport built for small spaces
Futsal is a fast, five-a-side court sport with its own ball, rules, rhythm, and identity. It keeps players close to the action and creates more opportunities to move, compete, and belong—in gyms, on courts, and in the spaces communities already have.
Why AFF exists
The American Futsal Foundation works to make futsal easier to discover and easier to reach—especially through the schools and community spaces children already know.

Discover the game
Futsal is a distinct five-a-side court sport, played with a smaller, low-bounce ball and rules designed for close control, quick decisions, and continuous action.
Substitutions happen on the fly. Restarts begin quickly. With no walls and little time to stand still, every player stays connected to the action. The game is simple to begin, difficult to master, and easy to love.

The need
Across the country, many children are getting less physical activity, fewer affordable chances to play, and fewer accessible sports opportunities. Futsal offers a practical response through active, small-sided play.
24%
Only about 1 in 4 children ages 6–17 get 60 minutes of physical activity per day.
20%
Only 1 in 5 girls meet the recommended daily activity level.
63%
Nearly 2 in 3 children from low-income families are shut out from after-school sports.
2x
Children from higher-income households are about twice as likely to play sports regularly.
A practical response does not have to begin with a new stadium or expensive facility. A court, a ball, and a consistent opportunity to play can open the door.
One practical response.
Futsal is the Solution.
Statistics summarized from youth health and sports participation research compiled by the American Futsal Foundation.
Why futsal works
Every possession asks players to connect, think, move, and begin again. The game creates repetition without standing still—more interaction, quicker decisions, better movement, and more opportunities to grow.
Small-sided play keeps every player involved, creating more actions and more development.
Less time and space challenge players to recognize options, move, and react quickly.
The pace of play naturally develops balance, agility, coordination, and fitness.
A compact court and limited equipment make regular play possible in more places.
Finite Space — Infinite Possibilities.
Futsal began as a solution for young people who needed a place to play. It turned familiar courts and compact spaces into a complete game. That history still points forward: with thoughtful planning and consistent play, the spaces communities already have can support a lasting futsal culture.
Schools already have students, courts, teachers, schedules, and a trusted place in the community. With the right support, one gym can open a place to play—and nearby schools can create a league, a calendar, and a pathway.
The access problem does not always require new infrastructure. Sometimes it requires a new use for what is already there.

This is the game we believe in.
